The pattern of a prodigal

Devotional done by Ess-Jee from standforyourmarriage.org

Today were going to try to give you a better understanding of what a prodigal goes through and what is the process they go through. Always remember that your fight is not with your spouse but against the enemy of their soul, the devil. Standing for your marriage goes much deeper than just that your spouse return to you, it’s a battle for their soul and they will thankyou because you never gave up on them. Prodigals do come home but in Gods perfect timing. Most Standers think that they are waiting for God but actually God is waiting for us, to be obedient to Him and let Him make the changes in us before He can make any changes in our spouse. I hear of many standers that feel alone and abandoned and hurting emotions flowing in their hearts. Your spouse has been deceived by the evil one believing a lie and following it, their eyes are blinded and  ears are blocked. Most of them listen to the devils lies and not Gods truths. That’s why your prayers are so important and your constant love for them. Asked the Lord to take your pain and heart ache, He can and He will. Let’s take a look what

David says:

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is near to the broken hearted And saves those who are crushed in spirit.

The Lord is always near in the midst of your marriage problems, His there holding it together. Remember Jesus said that His yoke is easy and His burden is light , so if things feels heavy again and you want to give up , give it to Jesus, He can Handle it. He loves you both; never ever give up on your spouse or your marriage. Jesus never ever gives up on us so please don’t give up on your spouse, there lives could depend on it.

Psalm 51:17

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.

The Lord will never forsake you or leave you alone, He loves you and just wants the very best for you and your family, trust in Him and His mighty power, with God anything is possible, do you believe that?

Isaiah 61:1

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners;

Have hope, God is in control and His son Jesus Christ is sitting on the throne of victory, Jesus took away Hopelessness and He gave us Hope. Even when things seem to be over its not, In Jesus’ terms that it is only the beginning of new tidings for you. God will bring back your spouse from the prison of bondage their in. I know sometimes the journey may feel long and the wait seems to just go on and on, but know while you are waiting for the restoration of your marriage the Holy Spirit is moving and working, we live by faith and not by sight. The Lord said in His word that those who diligently seek Him will see His face, are you diligently seeking the Lord daily for the restoration of your marriage and His will for your life? Praying for your husband or wife out of a humble heart? Covering there nakedness of sin?

Ezekiel 34:16

"I will seek the lost, bring back the scattered, bind up the broken and strengthen the sick.

Lets take a look at , what is the typical pattern of a prodigal, I call it the 5 ‘R’s’ to Restoration: rebellion, ruin, repentance, reconciliation, restoration.

1.     Rebellion - refusal to accept some authority or code or convention; organized resistance or opposition to a government or other authority, dissent from an accepted moral code or convention of behaviour, dress, etc.

          2.     Ruin -Total destruction or disintegration, physical, moral, social, or economic.

3.     Repentance - The act or process of repenting. Remorse or contrition for past conduct or sin, "Joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance" Bible: St. Luke

4.     Reconciliation - getting two things to correspond; joint operation or action; "their cooperation with us was essential for the success of our mission"

5.     Restoration - the act of restoring or state of being restored, as to a former or original condition, place, etc.the replacement or giving back of something lost, stolen, etc. something restored, replaced, or reconstructed.

Be strong in the Lord
