Why do you Stand?

Devotional done by ess-jee from stand for your marriage

"LORD, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the LORD, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken."
Psalm 16:5-8

This is perhaps one of the most asked questions I get everyday; “Why would you choose to sacrifice your life for your spouse, who doesn’t want you anymore? Why don’t you just go on with your life and maybe you will meet someone better?” Do people ask you these same questions? Well why does one stand, why will you choose to give up your life for someone who doesn’t really deserve it?

To get to the answer of all these questions, let’s take a look at scripture:

But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear ; do not be frightened."
Take Courage
1 Peter 3:14

Immediately he spoke to them and said, "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed,
Mark 6:51

Will your courage endure or your hands be strong in the day I deal with you? I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.
The Effects Your Courage Will Have On Others
Ezekiel 22:14

... say to those with fearful hearts, "Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you."
Isaiah 35:4

  • Jesus was punished that we might be forgiven
  • Jesus was wounded that we might be healed
  • Jesus was made sin with our sinfulness that we might be made the righteous with His righteousness.
  • Jesus died our death that we might receive life.
  • Jesus endured our rejection that we might have His acceptance with the Father.

Jesus chose to sacrifice His life for you and me. He gave Himself to us even though when we didn’t deserve His love. It didn’t matter to Him; He still chose to die for us.

So my answer to the question is relatively easy. Every time I went my own way Jesus was still waiting for me. Every time I sinned against Him, He still loved me. Even when I rejected Him He still loved me. When I walked out on Him, He still wanted the very best for me. My actions and disobedience didn’t change His love for me. He was always ready to receive me back in His Fathers House.

Jesus gave everything for us. When He called me to stand for the resurrection of my marriage and for the salvation of my beloved’s soul, I said; “Lord, You gave everything for me, You saved me and I will sacrifice myself to You and my wife, I love you both so much, that’s why I choose to die to self and follow You.” Didn’t Jesus come to this world to show us how to live? Did He come so that you and I can live out our selfish and self-centred desires? No, He came to show us that He wants the same attitude in us as were in Him.

Will you dare to be bold enough to say no to the world’s solutions and ways and yes to God’s solution and ways? We serve an Almighty, Awesome God. Be bold with me and leave a legacy behind for your family. Be brave and STAND.
