Genesis 37:18 Now Joseph’s brothers42 saw him from a distance, and before he reached them, they plotted to kill him. 37:19 They said to one another, “Here comes this master of dreams!43 37:20 Come now, let’s kill him, throw him into one of the cisterns, and then say that a wild44 animal ate him. Then we’ll see how his dreams turn out!”45

37:21 When Reuben heard this, he rescued Joseph46 from their hands,47 saying,48 “Let’s not take his life!”49 37:22 Reuben continued,50 “Don’t shed blood! Throw him into this cistern that is here in the wilderness, but don’t lay a hand on him.”51 (Reuben said this52 so he could rescue Joseph53 from them54 and take him back

 to his father.)

37:23 When Joseph reached his brothers, they stripped him55 of his tunic, the special tunic that he wore. 37:24 Then they took him and threw him into the cistern. (Now the cistern was empty;56 there was no water in it.)

37:25 When they sat down to eat their food, they looked up57 and saw58 a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. Their camels were carrying spices, balm, and myrrh down to Egypt.59 37:26 Then Judah said to his

brothers, “What profit is there if we kill our brother and cover up his blood? 37:27 Come, let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites, but let’s not lay a hand on him,60 for after all, he is our brother, our own flesh.” His brothers agreed.61 37:28 So when the Midianite62 merchants passed by, Joseph’s brothers pulled63 him64 out of the cistern and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. The Ishmaelites65 then took Joseph to Egypt.

Do you feel that you have been through into a pit? I have learned a very costly lesson this week, to not put my hope in people. Your hope must always be in God. Right throughout the bible you will see people backstabbing and lying to those nearest to them. Jesus was backstabbed many many times, peter who denied Him three times. Judas delivery Him to the officials, most of His disciples hid when the Roman authorities came for Jesus. Delia deceiving Samson, Kain and Abel etc. When someone do this to you what’s your first reaction? You feel rejected, hurt, backstabbed and how could they done this to me. Do this sound familiar. Then the next phase is vengeance coming up and after that hatred and unforgiveness. Unforgiveness is were you start to take a downward spiral in your inner man, not a good sign.

Jesus came to demonstrate His love towards us , forgiving us all our trespasses. At first it will seem Hard to forgive someone who took you out to the cleaners, but just as Love is a choice forgiveness starts with you choosing to forgive the one who be little you. After you made the choice the feelings will follow and you will start to love that person again. The Holy Spirit will also help to sooth your pain or hurt.

Let’s go back to the story of Joseph, his brothers he loved so much got jealous and thronged him into the pit, shame what would have gone through Joseph thoughts on that day. Then to make things worse they sold him to a merchant, there own brother. But look how great God is, I think Joseph forgave them and then God started to work on the restoration and reconciliation process. The process of restoration or reconciliation cannot start before the first phase of forgiveness has begun. God took a slave and made Him the King of nations. To put the Jerry on top those who persecuted him came back on there knees to him. Joseph could have destroyed all his brothers if he wanted to but he choose life he choose the way of everlasting, forgiveness.

There family was restored and reconciled. I do believe in what God has done for this family He will surely do for yours. Let God start with you let Him have His way with you first. Let Him build in YOU His agape love so that you can love your persecutors as Christ loved you.
